Planning tile surfaces in a climate-friendly manner
When it comes to flooring, the choice of building materials usually only extends to the surface covering. However, beneath this surface lies a climate potential that has been insufficiently considered so far. For instance, tiles are typically bonded with setting mortars containing a significant amount of cement, which has gained notoriety as a climate pollutant. Saint-Gobain Weber has conducted extensive research on this matter and has combined technical progress and sustainability with its cement-reduced BlueComfort product family. In the BlueComfort mortar products, 98 percent of the cement is replaced by a mineral hydraulic binding agent. Through this patented binding agent technology, the production of both BlueComfort tile adhesives saves between 30 and 80 percent (!) of CO2 emissions, while increasing efficiency and improving processing properties.
The BlueComfort product family currently comprises two tile adhesives. With these flexible thin- and medium-bed mortars, almost any type of flooring can be installed in residential and wet areas on any substrate, including underfloor heating. As a class C2 TE adhesive, weber.xerm 840 is suitable for traditional tile installation or for leveling irregularities and voids. The highly flexible premium adhesive weber.xerm 842 (C2 TE S1 according to DIN EN 120004) can also be used with large formats and is particularly recommended for substrates exposed to low tensions or slight vibrations. The production of weber.xerm 840 emits 30 percent less CO2 compared to similar adhesives, while the saving is even 80 percent for weber.xerm 842. Both tile adhesives have an individual Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). They are listed in the Product Navigator of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and are classified as "very low emission"
